The Annual John Bloomfield Memorial Lectures
This year's John Bloomfield Lecture will be held on 7th October 2023. The speakers will be David Adamson (stonemason) and Michael Anderson (lead-worker).
The 4th Annual John Bloomfield Memorial Lecture had been due to be held on 26 September 2020 but, like other planned fundraising events in 2020 it had to be postponed/ cancelled due to covid-19 restrictions. The lecture was eventually held on Saturday 25th September 2021, when Rick Lewis gave a fascinating talk on timber-framed buildings.
The annual Lecture series in memory of John Bloomfield was inaugurated in 2017 with talks by Roger Kennell on brickwork and Rick Lewis on timber-framed buildings. The 2022 lecure on stained glass was by Chris Parkinson
On Saturday 29 September 2018 the second John Bloomfield Memorial Lecture "Anglicans on High: The Oxford Movement & Hadleigh" was held in St Mary's Church, Hadleigh. Roy Tricker B.E.M. gave a fascinating talk on the Oxford Movement and the Catholic Revival in the Church of England, including its connection with Hadleigh.
On 28th September 2019 the third John Bloomfield Memorial Lecture was given by Rev Dr David Cornick on "Hadleigh, Suffolk and The Reformation". Dr Cornick is a Fellow and Director of Studies in Theology and Religious Studies at Robinson College Cambridge and recently retired as Director of "Churches Together in England". His topic for the lecture was the effect of The Reformation both nationally and locally.
